This Phoenix Speaks

Seven years in the making, my first published book, This Phoenix Speaks , is now a reality. The tireless and tiring work invested to ma...

expectations

I have them.
I didn't mean to though.
At first, they crept into my heart.
But I let them stay for a good while.
Until they stayed long enough to change.
I used to expect something good out of each day.
And then I began to expect the worst because it was truth.
I relearned hope and happiness but to invest with little return.

So now, I do expect a few things:
I expect to love with my whole heart
And never be loved like that in return.
I expect to care until it hurts
And to wish I never did but I still will.
I expect to be solitary until my dying day
And never find not one person who will ever want to stay.

  2. I reread your poem twice. It moved me. It saddened me. It made me dig in deep and reflect on its honesty.

    1. Sometimes the brutality of my honesty accosts even me. I'm thankful that you stopped by and took some time to reflect on my words. It is an honor.

  3. Thank you for clearly reflecting the way you feel now. It is a brave act. Hope is more resilient than even this I believe. Praying for your hope to be restored!

  4. This broke my heart. I have stood in that very same place, so this really spoke to me. It's very brave to admit how you truly feel deep down. It's very honest.

I will thinking of you and hoping you find your happiness, in yourself and perhaps someday in someone else. Don't give up on finding your happiness, whatever that may be.

    1. I didn't think about putting a positive hook at the end as usual because I was in a sad frame of mind as I wrote this one. But I am thankful for your "one more." I believe in miracles, and I will watch for them to come.
