I had completed another aspect of my job, which was to get them to adulthood without a prison record, able to read, and happy. I celebrated every stage of their lives and looked forward to the next. And now that they are grown, I do not yearn for their childhood days again. They are adult friends in my life now that I wouldn't have if life hadn't gone on.
