Seeking to Become - January 2012

I have chosen two scriptures to focus on this month. The verse prior to these describes that a woman who had been suffering from a physical ailment had come up from behind Jesus and touched his garment.

 21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

 22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
 {Matthew 9:21-22}

This situation is not set apart as an example only to women or people with physical ailment. The words of Christ and the works of his earthly ministry can be applied liberally to every person and circumstance.

As I step out into the world, seeking to become more like Christ, I see how essential it is for me to allow His healing sacrifice to heal me. Oftentimes, human beings are able to show compassion, love, and forgiveness for others, yet somehow do not have the skills to apply those same actions to themselves. Over the past several weeks, friends, family, and my readership have reached out to share inspirational words ranging from personal advice to quotations from books to words of the holy prophets. The prompts to reach out to my Savior for peace and healing are nearly innumerable. So, as January begins, the focus will be on becoming a person who opens the door to healing by exercising faith.

Faith is a noun, yes, but it is also an action word or verb (to get technical). On dictionary.com I found an apt definition for the term verb:
verb --n. ...serve to indicate the occurrence or performance of an action, the existence of a state or condition, etc.

If I have faith, I am doing things to show that faith, such as praying often; reading scriptures on a frequent, if not daily, basis; forgiving others, as well as myself; self-evaluating and repenting of any wrongs to the best of my ability; striving to learn of Christ that I may live a life that reflects my belief in him; cultivating a healing atmosphere where God's Holy Spirit may bind up wounds and heal hearts.

I cordially invite you to join me in this monthly challenge to be more faithful in thought and deed and recognize His healing power in our lives.
