Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua 1:9

Every day of life holds within it reasons to fear and cause for dismay for someone somewhere in the world. Yet we are not required to be afraid or worry or fret, nor are we required to lose hope. Life is hard as well as beautiful and sometimes faith is the only thing that bridges the gap between the two.
This small verse of scripture reminds me that God has commanded me to be courageous and not just any old regular type of courage, but of a good courage and to not be afraid or allow myself to become dismayed. If it is a commandment, there has to be a way to make it happen even under the most tragic of circumstances.
The hope within me carries me through so many trials, especially when I remember that God is with me withersoever I go. This hopefulness blesses me and provides the means for me to find patience I lack, love those who hate me, and work toward improving myself even when in the midst of the most complicated problems.

Thanks for this reminder. There are days when it would be so easy to surrender to heartbreak and emotion. I need to read this passage again and again. God will provide me with courage to keep my focus on Him. God is so good.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Well said my purple sister. "Be strong and of good courage!" May just be the next sign to go up in the workout room!
